The 10 Commandments in our Courthouses

HomeReligion, Atheism, and Odd TheologyThe 10 Commandments in our Courthouses

A common argument among atheists and the irreligious is that the Ten Commandments doesn’t belong in our courthouses. Some say that having the Ten Commandments posted there gives an implicit recommendation of one religion over all others. Some go so far as to say that it essentially makes Christianity the official religion of America.

For the record, I couldn’t possibly care less about whether the Ten Commandments are posted in any courthouse. I wonder, though, whether such people realize that their argument makes no sense at all. The Ten Commandments can be found in Exodus 20 . Long before Christians started emigrating to the New World, Israelites around the world had been living by the Ten Commandments. Why doesn’t anyone ever say that having the Ten Commandments on our courthouse walls is an attempt at establishing Judaism as the state religion?

Huh? Why is that?
