The argument from martyrdom suggests that Jesus’ disciples could have escaped death by recanting their testimony about Jesus, but chose not to… leading us to conclude that they really believed He has risen from the dead. Is this a good argument?

It’s important to note that many criticisms of arguments for the resurrection, or for the existence of God, or the reliability of Scripture are based on faulty explanations of the arguments themselves. We regularly see skeptics of Christianity debunking an argument that hasn’t been made.

In this case, Jonathan McLatchie makes sure to clarify the argument before addressing Ehrman’s article. It’s good information to store away for future discussions with spiritual seekers.
