I’m sure I’ll be writing a few things about the so-called “prosperity gospel” in the future…in the meantime, this should keep you busy. John Piper has a lot of good things to say, and this video will give you a glimpse of why I say that.
No matter what anyone tells you, know this: Christianity isn’t a ticket to the good life. If it were, Jesus’ disciples would have ruled the world. Instead, most of them were martyred for their faith. If you’re tempted to believe that guy on TV when he says that God wants every Christian to be rich, consider the words of Jesus Himself:
Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.
Don’t get me wrong: there’s nothing bad about doing well financially, or being in good health. The problem is in assuming that God will bless every faithful Christian with either.
