2022 in Review

HomeGodWords Stuff2022 in Review

As a web professional, I like to keep track of how effectively a website does what it should. As a ministry guy, I work to make sure I’m serving in the best way possible. Fortunately, these two things go together well for GodWords.

2022 was kind of a weird year. I added more articles than usual, saw more traffic than usual, and answered more personal emails than usual. A reasonable question would be “what changed?” and, to be honest, I’m not happy about what changed.

Why would I be unhappy about more traffic, more emails, and more opportunities to serve? It’s really simple: I don’t like the reason I’m getting more traffic. A significant portion of the new and repeat visitors are asking about false teachers. Now, that’s a mixed bag. On one hand, it’s FANTASTIC that people are concerned about being misled. On the other hand, I shouldn’t have to write about false teachers at all. I put off doing it for over 20 years, but gave in because you – my audience – kept asking and asking.

Now, I’m happy to be able to help. That’s not a problem. The problem is that it seems nobody knows who to trust these days. In the ‘age of disinformation,’ that’s understandable… but it’s still not good.

Let me make a suggestion: study your Bible. That’s how you’ll know whether someone teaches the truth or a lie. Don’t study the lies. Study the truth, and then you’ll be able to spot a lie at any time.

Average Monthly Pageviews

On average, 85,000 pages were read each month in 2022. While the number is down from 2021, there are a few differences. First, the traffic regarding false teachers has eclipsed most other topics. Second, there have been bursts of traffic, where some months were over 125,000.

Top 5 Articles for 2022

  1. The False Teaching of Steven Furtick
  2. List of False Teachers
  3. Can You Go to Heaven if You’re Not Baptized?
  4. Name Changes in the Bible
  5. The False Teaching of Joseph Prince

Apparently, Steven Furtick is really popular. Also apparently, people are wondering whether he can be trusted to teach responsibly from Scripture. While every false teacher says many true things, Steven Furtick – along with so many other false teachers – contradicts Scripture, makes outlandish statements about God, and more. It’s encouraging to note that so many are asking whether he’s reliable, but discouraging that he has so many followers.

Conclusion

I’ll sum up with the same comment I left last year: it’s been a good year. It’s been a long year, but God is always good, and He brings me lots of opportunities to serve. You keep me humble with your comments, both complimentary and argumentative. I’m a better follower of Jesus because of you, and that means the world to me.

Love, Tony
