The Books of the Tanakh

HomeUncategorizedThe Books of the Tanakh

The Tanakh (or Tanach) is the Hebrew Bible… what Christians call the “Old Testament.” There are three sections of books: Torah, Nevi’im, and Ketuvim… TNK. These are the same books as in the Christian Bible, but in a different order. Written in Hebrew with some Aramaic, the Tanakh is the foundation of Jewish religious law, ethics, and theology.

There are 24 books in the Tanakh. Some count 22, the same as the letters in the Hebrew alphabet. This is due to a tradition of combining Judges and Ruth into one book, and combining Jeremiah and Lamentations into one book.
